Unlike some relic guitar companies, Rebel Relic does not build custom guitars.  Instead, they build a number of different guitars and post them along with their sell price on their website.  You can order directly from Rebel Relic, or you can go through one of their international dealers.  While you can’t create your own custom relic guitar, you can order one of the many different relics the company makes.  They have a full list with images on their website.

Under their parts section, Rebel Relic offers Tonerider Pickups, Rebel Vintage, TV Jones parts, and more.  You’ll find a wide range of parts, including necks, pickups, bodies, and just about anything you need to make or repair your own relic.  While you can’t custom order a relic guitar from Rebel Relic, you can get just about everything else, making them a great company for those looking for a reasonably priced relic guitar or parts for their own instrument.

While Tricked Out Guitar doesn’t focus exclusively on relic guitars, it does offer many pieces of hardware that relic guitars need.  You can find bridges, plates, knobs, tail pieces, and more.  They even have a category for “Relik” parts.  These parts range from plastic to metal, and the crew of Tricked Out Guitar relics each and every piece themselves using their own relic techniques.  If you’ve got your own parts, you can also send them to Tricked Out Guitar and they will age them for you.  Many of the reliced parts they offer are genuine original vintage parts, including parts by Fender, Wilkinson, and Gretsch.

Tricked Out Guitar has pretty average prices, although you may balk a bit when you see how much their relic parts go for.  However, they do show you the list price so you can compare it to their price, and you do save a good amount of money.  If you want them to age some of your own hardware, you’ll have to email them for a quote.  While they may not be the cheapest site, Tricked Out Guitar does have a great selection of parts and their prices aren’t outrageous.

In addition to offering a large number of paints, Guitar ReRanch also features an in-depth section on how to refinish your guitars.  They have step by step instructions on selecting the finish, applying it to the neck, how to create Fender and Gibson sunbursts, and more.  The articles and instructions are very detailed and easy to follow.  Guitar ReRanch features a large image gallery showing how different guitars look after they’re refinished so you can get an idea of what you like.  If you find that you need help with your relic guitar, the site also hosts a discussion board where you can chat with other guitar enthusiasts.

If you’re out to create your own relic guitar, the team at Guitar ReRanch is the people to go to when it comes to finishes and color.  While they may not be much help in other areas of relic guitar building, they’re masters at what they do.

The Wonder How To SRV (Stevie Ray Vaughn) Stratocaster video series consists of ten different videos.  Each is narrated by Rolijen, the creator of the series.  He begins by talking about how to select the proper body to use in building your relic guitar.  He then moves on to outline the various parts and tools you’ll need.  He will then guide you step by step through the entire process of creating your SRV Stratocaster relic guitar, even giving you some tips on tuning it at the end.

The videos themselves are fairly clear and easy to follow.  Rolijen does a pretty good job of detailing how to make your relic guitar.  Unless you have a laptop or a good sized work area near your desktop computer, though, you may find it easier to follow instructions that you can print out.  Also note that part one of the series actually contains both part 1 and part 2 (bodies and necks, respectively).

The only current available SRV model looks brand new.  Its polyurethane coating actually makes certain that it will never end up with those natural dings and scratches.  Fortunately, if you own a Fender Strat, you can easily turn it into a relic by following the SRVGuitar instructions.  They recommend you start with a three tone sunburst Fender with a full alder body, but of course you can use any guitar you want.  The website itself is actually focused on the Fender that Stevie Ray Vaughan used (the one he called #1).  In fact, after you learn how to relic your guitar, you can read up on the history of Vaughan and his Stratocaster.

While SRVGuitar may not be for everyone (it’s completely understandable if you don’t want to risk damaging your guitar in a do-it-yourself accident), it is for anyone who wants a cool relic SRV.  If you’re a fan of Stevie Ray Vaughan, you may especially enjoy the information on the site and the instructions for creating your own replica of his famous instrument.

Guitar Parts and More has a huge number of items.  These include bodies, necks, bridges, tailpieces, pickups, tuners, and pick guards.  They also offer single cutaway LP tributes, other vintage tributes, pedals, effect products, and more.  For those looking to build their own relic guitar, the miscellaneous parts section features various knobs and other parts that may be of interest.

One thing to note about Guitar Parts and More is that they do not keep items in stock.  Instead, when you place an order, they add it to their bulk order from the appropriate company.  Since they only do bulk orders once a week, you may end up waiting a bit longer for your merchandise than you would from other companies.  The savings (up to 35 percent in some cases), though, may be more than worth the extra wait.

While Guitar Parts and More won’t be the first place a relic guitar builder will go, it may be a good resource for some of those harder to find parts.  In addition to what they have listed for sale on their website, you can also contact the store and ask for a full catalogue of items available.

The website Relic Deluxe includes just about everything you’d ever need to know about relicing a guitar.  The tools and materials section gives you a list of everything you’ll need to purchase to get started.  The site even tells you where to find most of these items, especially the more obscure ones like hydrochloric acid (it’s used in swimming pool upkeep).  Once you’ve got all of your supplies together, you’ll find pages that walk you through relicing the body, neck, metal hardware, and plastic parts.  The site also features a gallery of the many relic guitars created by the man behind Relic Deluxe.

One of the things AXL Guitars doesn’t really do at the moment is take custom orders.  However, they are planning on expanding their services in the future, and this is one area they want to add.  For now, if you want one of their relic guitars or one of their custom made instruments, you have to select from what they have available online.

The good news for those looking for relic instruments is that AXL Guitars has a few Badwater guitars that have been distressed and aged.  They have a variety of these guitars that feature aged hardware, distressed bodies, and more.  While the selection isn’t huge, if you like Badwater guitars, you may find something you like here.  However, if they do begin building custom relic guitars in the future, their dedication to quality makes them a company to check out.

Nash Guitars may not be of much interest to those looking to have their guitars reliced—Nash does not relic guitars any longer, nor does he sell relic parts.  However, he does build custom guitars for dealers that he deals with.  At one point, Nash did take custom orders, but because building one guitar for a client takes much longer than simply building custom guitars, he no longer does this.  While he says he only sells guitars through the dealers he has listed on his website, he does still have ordering and payment information listed.  This is a little confusing, although it’s possible that the Nash Guitars website simply hasn’t been updated since they stopped taking custom orders.

While Nash Guitars builds some very beautiful instruments, the fact that you have to go through a dealer may make the process a bit more complex.  Infinty guitars carries a pretty wide selection of Nash Guitars.

One of the things Crook’s prides itself on is creating a guitar that’s absolutely perfect for you.  They won’t just pick out parts of your guitar.  Instead, they’ll actively work with you to select the wood used in the guitar, the electronics, and the finish.  They also have a number of specialized bits of hardware and pickups for you to select from.  Then you get to pick the finish.  In addition to amazing colors and showroom quality finishes, they also do relic finishes so you can have your very own relic guitar that looks like it’s been around for years.

In addition to building custom guitars, Crook’s will also refinish your instruments.  They will apply relic finishes to any guitar, including adding aged plastic parts and rusted hardware.

One thing not addressed on the Crook Custom Guitars website is price.  Instead, you’ll have to fill out their contact form and specify exactly what you need from Crook’s to get an estimate.
