Reverend Guitars is known for working with some great musicians, including Pete Anderson and Unknown Hinson, the man who calls himself the King of Country Western Troubadours.  In addition to producing guitars based on the designs and desires of these players, Reverend also has a number of limited edition instruments.  The Six Gun Limited Edition was created in 2010, and once all of them are sold out, no more will be made.

The Six Gun Limited Edition takes the standard Six Gun guitar and modifies it so that it’s truly a one-of-a-kind instrument.  It features a reverse headstock, a white pickguard and white neck and middle pickups, a Wilkinson V50 tremolo, and a limited edition logo found on the back of the headstock.

This relic guitar has a korina solidbody with a reverse bolt-on neck that is made of maple.  The fingerboard is also maple and has a 12” radius.  The pickups are Reverend T-style single-coil (bridge) and S-style (the middle and neck).  You’ll find 22 medium jumbo frets on the instrument as well as Reverend pin-lock tuners, volume and tone controls, and a 5-way switch.  This guitar retails for $1079 and, as mentioned above, supplies are extremely limited.

suhr-custom-2010-limited-editionTaking a relic guitar look and adding a bit of modern flair to it, Suhr has created the Suhr Custom 2010 Limited Edition guitar.  The design may not look quite as relic as some may like, but for those who want a bit of a modern look to their instrument, it’s perfect.  The 2010 Limited Edition is based on the Suhr Custom guitar, but it’s got a few new changes to it.  For one, the set-neck construction gives the instrument a completely new feel and sound to it, plus it looks different, too.  This look was designed by John Suhr to provide neck-body stability and maximum resonance.  The characteristics and response are both quite different from bolt-on necks.

The set-neck construction isn’t always considered better than the bolt-on neck, but it does create a different type of sound and look.  The Suhr Custom 2010 Limited Edition is the first Suhr guitar to feature a set-neck, so it will be quite a valuable collector’s piece in addition to being a great instrument that can be played for years.  Only 125 Suhr Custom 2010 Limited Edition guitars will be made, although Suhr does plan to construct more set-neck instruments in the future.  However, if you want a 2010 LE, you’d better order one soon before they’re all gone.

nash-s-67-relic-guitarThe Nash S-67 was inspired by the playing and tone of David Gilmour.  While it’s a new instrument, the Nash S-67 captures everything that Gilmour loved about his classic Strats.   The S-67 also features some new, modern additions, including Lollar Strat pickups and a maple fretboard.

The Nash S-67 relic guitar features an alder body and a three-ply pickguard.  The maple neck is done in a medium C birds eye style, and it features a CBS era shape.  The wide headstock and the Gilmour styled white knobs, pickup covers, and whammy round out this awesome guitar.  The Nash S-67 is available in black with a black pickguard, and the white accessories really stand out.  This is one of Nash’s most beautiful instruments, and, just like all of their relic guitars, every S-67 is hand assembled and features only top quality components.  They generally retail for around $1,800.

One of the most well-known guitars in the world is called “The Fool.” vintage-vs6mrf-e2809cthe-foole2809d The original was a one of a kind special guitar featuring unique artwork.  It was completely hand painted, and the image painted on the guitar’s body was based on art commissioned by George Harrison, a member of The Beatles.  The original artwork was done as a mural on the wall of their Apple Boutique.  Later, the mural was recreated on one of Harrison’s guitars, which he then gave to his friend Eric Clapton.  Clapton played the guitar for years, but it eventually became the properly of Todd Rundgren, another famous player.

Today, guitarists can get their own replica of The Fool from Vintage.  This guitar, model number VS6MRF, looks amazing because each and every one of them is hand painted with oil paint.  The guitar is more than just for looks, though.  It sounds exactly as a guitar made in the 1960s would, and it features everything a great guitar needs.  It has a mahogany body and neck which features 22 pearloid crown inlays.  The fingerboard is made out of rosewood, and the guitar features 22 frets.  This relic guitar uses Wilkinson Deluxe tuners, a Tune-O-Matic bridge, Wilkinson Double Coil pickups, and has two volume and two tone controls in addition to a three way toggle switch.  But let’s face it—if you’re purchasing this guitar, you’re really wanting it for its amazing artwork. The Malden Liquid features very tight-fitting joints and is constructed using only top-quality parts.  It’s very well built, and it will stand up to a lot of abuse.  Malden is known for their high quality instruments, and the Liquid is absolutely no exception.  It may look like a relic instrument from the past, but it’s constructed like one of today’s top guitars.

The ’67 Hornet Guitar by Danelectro Guitars is a great relic guitar that was reissued in a very limited run by Danelectro. danelectro-guitars-67-hornet-guitarThe guitar was also a limited model back when it was originally released, so Danelectro is staying faithful to the history of this great relic guitar. Just like the original, the company expects these reissues to sell out very quickly and to become a collector’s item. The ’67 Hornet Guitar is available in a number of different colors, all of which were available in 1967 when the Hornet was first produced. They include red, orange, black, limey (green), cobalt blue, and butterscotch.

The Hornet relic guitar features a solid basswood body and is done in the classic Dano construction style. The maple neck features an adjustable truss rod located at the headstock, and the tremolo is an original Danelectro. Both the bridge and the fingerboard are made from swivel rosewood, and the guitar also features some neat souped-up lipstick pickups. An aluminum nut, plastic knobs, and 10 gauge strings finish up the stats on this great relic. Danelectro actually recommends changing those strings out for an 11 gauge because of the tremolo bar. One of the great things about the ’67 Hornet is that the company has done their best to make it completely affordable to everyone—the guitar is only $399 if bought directly from Danelectro.

The Suhr Classic is a great relic guitar that has both an amazing look and a great sound.  It’s a semi-retro instrument that features an incredible playability.  suhr-classicThis guitar is built to last, and it’s so durable you’ll think it actually survived all of these years instead of being built and then put through a relic process.  Of course, the price is only a small fraction of what you’d pay for a real vintage guitar.  The tone, too, is excellent, and the guitar, like all Suhr instruments, will stay in tune for months.

The Suhr Classic features a rosewood or a maple neck, V60 pickups, and medium SS frets.  It’s available in a multitude of colors, including Sherwood Green Metallic, Candy Apple Red, Two-Tone Sunburst, Dakota Red Tort, and more.  It features an alder body, and the neck is done in a 60s C vintage standard shape.  The hardware is done in chrome, and the pickguard is a 3 ply parchment.  It has a volume and tone control on the neck, and a five way switch.

If you’re looking for a great classic guitar that isn’t incredibly expensive, the Suhr Classic is exactly what you need.  Its tone is outstanding, especially when you add it to a boutique amp.
