The AXL Badwater Semi-Hollowbody relic guitar gives the appearance of a guitar constructed many years ago.  The Semi-Hollowbody features a maple top and back which has been distressed so that it looks ancient.  The neck is also made from maple in a C-shape, and it’s set on.  One interesting fact about the Semi-Hollowbody is that its neck is incredibly thin—it’s almost like a strat neck, in fact.  It features a rosewood fretboard.  The guitar has a dot inlay and a anodized Tune-o-Matic bridge.  It uses two Alnico humbuckers.  A three way selector switch, volume, and tone controls are included. Nash E12 GuitarsNash Guitars has created a number of great relic guitars since they began operations in 2001. The Nash E12 is a great relic guitar that comes in several different styles.  These guitars are available in a number of different finishes.

The E12 Solidbody is based off of the Nash T relic guitars.  However, it uses a 12 string neck instead of the standard neck found on the T line.  The bridge is through body loading and top loading, giving it a great old time look.

The second model of the E12 is the E12 Hollowbody.  It is also based off of the T style guitar and uses the 12 string neck.  It is designed similarly to the E12 Solidbody, but, as the name implies, it features a hollow body instead of a solid one.  A slightly different model of the E12, the EC12 Hollowbody, features a slightly different look and style. The James Trussart SteelDeville is a classic single cutaway relic guitar that is simply gorgeous and sounds amazing.  One of the unique aspects of this instrument is that it features the James Trussart exclusive hollow steel body and special metal appointments such as the recessed steel head cap.  These custom appointments are not only visually appealing but they are also functional—the steel head cap, for example, adds mass to the headstock to increase the guitar’s sustain.  Overall, the SteelDeville has a very nice thick, resonant tone that features an edge that can cut through just about anything.  The SteelDeville has been played by a number of famous guitarists, including Richard Fortus and Gilby Clarke of Guns N Roses and Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes. Like the Suhr Classic, the Classic T can handle anything from sleek modern sounds to those sweet vintage tones.  This relic guitar is popular with both those who love vintage instruments and players who are looking for something that’s a little different from the rest of the pack.  The Classic T certainly fits that bill.

One of the things that makes the Classic T unique is that players can easily customize this guitar.  For those who want a Classic T that looks like it was made back in the 50s or 60s, they can ask for a slab body that has no contours at all.  On the other hand, for those that want contours, the slab can be done with a harder body edge radius.  An all-contour body is also an option.  It’s all up to what the player wants.  That’s one of the greatest things about Suhr and their instruments.

The Suhr Classic T relic guitar features a swamp ash body that has a black back finish and a three-tone burst.  The neck is made from one solid piece of maple in a 60s C vintage standard shape.  It has medium frets.  The instrument uses a Tusq nut, Sperzel locking gears, and all chrome hardware.  The bridge is a three-saddle vintage bridge.

To own a Suhr Classic T, simply visit the Suhr website for ordering information.  The standard price for one of these guitars is $4,170.

The James Trussart SteelX relic guitar, like all of the guitars made by Trussart, is of excellent quality and sound.  The SteelX has a very unique sound to it.  It’s different from the other Trussart guitars, and it sounds different from just about anything else out there, too.  There are several different reasons for this, but the main reason is in how the guitar is constructed.  It uses a perforated top, features a Korina set neck, and has a Tune O Matic bridge.  The SteelX also uses Arcane Inc. humbuckers and is done in a steel finish that looks incredible.  It’s also put through a relic process so that it doesn’t look like it just rolled off the assembly line.

Another very interesting and different thing about the SteelX is the guitar’s body shape.  It’s almost shaped like an X, giving the body of the guitar a great visual appeal.  This guitar looks great when you’re playing heavy metal or other rock.  It’s certainly not going to be mistaken for any other type of guitar!  Of course, the cost of the SteelX has been noted as being a bit pricy.  However, don’t let that stop you.  The James Trussart SteelX is worth the cost.

In 2009, Suhr designed the Suhr Custom 2009 LE relic guitar, their first limited edition guitar (they later designed a 2010 LE).  The 2009 LE is based on the Carve Top design.  This makes the instrument feel very luxurious.  The ¾” figured Maple top gives it a high-end brilliance and a much tighter sound than one would find from a flat top.  The carve in the 2009 LE, however, is a bit more subtle than the standard Carve Top instrument, making the LE look a little different.

Those who purchased the Suhr Custom 2009 had several different options.  The LE came in either a quilted maple top or a flame maple top.  Customers also had a choice of two different bridges: a Gotoh double-locking bridge or the Gotoh 510TS-FE1 bridge.  The second option was more traditional, while the first provided a more modern look.  Finally, the 2009 LE came in three different colors: natural gloss, faded trans whale blue burst, and faded teardrop honey burst.  These options allowed players to personalize the instrument.

So how likely are you to be able to get your hands on one of these Custom 2009 LE guitars?  Not very.  Suhr was limiting the production to only 100 guitars.  If you didn’t get one when they were first released, chances are Suhr has reached the 100 mark already.  Your only hope is to find someone who wants to sell theirs, but be ready to pay for it. Grosh Guitars has created yet another great relic guitar in the form of the Sunset ’79.  This relic guitar is based on the late 70s and early 80s models that dominated the hard rock scene in southern California.  The Sunset ’79 has a one piece maple neck, rear-routed electronics, and dual Grosh Blown 59 humbuckers that are mounted right onto the body.  These three features make the Sunset ’79 a focused, aggressive instrument.  The Sunset ’79 is the first Grosh guitar to be designed from the beginning using a Floyd Rose tremolo.

The Sunset ’79 has a distinctive offset body design that creates a signature look that is both similar to other guitars while at the same time uniquely different.  It has a modified D back shaped neck that has been created just for the Sunset by Don Grosh.  The body is made from alder, but a swamp ash body is also an option.  It’s done in a nitrocellulose lacquer finish, has a 12 inch fingerboard radius, and uses 6100 jumbo frets.  The hardware is done in chrome, and the guitar has a 3-way switch, volume, and tone controls.  The Sunset ’79 base price is $3,099.

There are several different models in Fano’s Alt de Facto line.  One of these is the Alt de Facto PX4.  This relic bass features many different options for the choosy bassist, including different body styles, necks, and fingerboards.

The PX4 standard configuration includes a mahogany, swamp ash, or alder body.  The neck is either mahogany or maple, while the fingerboard is made from rosewood or maple.  It uses 6105 fretwire and has 21 frets.  The bass is done in an early 60’s C shape with aged nickel hardware to give it a great relic look.  It features Hipshot tuners and bridge.  The PX4 is then done in a distressed nitrocellulose lacquer to give it a nice, aged look.

When it comes to options, there are many.  The body and/or neck can be made from korina, and the fingerboard can be out of Brazilian rosewood.  You can opt to add fingerboard binding and aged gold hardware instead of the nickel.  Custom pain colors and pickguard color are also available.  All in all, the Fano Alt de Facto PX4 is a great relic guitar that can be customized to your look and feel, allowing you to create a bass that is like no other.
