The Gibson Les Paul guitar is one of the most iconic instruments in popular music. A number of variations of the base model have been introduced over the years, including the Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar. This is one of the pricier and highest quality guitars that Gibson makes. The LesPaul was designed by guitarist LesPaul in collaboration with Gibson in 1952.
The base LesPaul guitar was a response to the Fender Telecaster, which had pioneered the single body electric guitar design that was sweeping the rock, country and blues music scenes. The LesPaul had some differences, such as the strings being attached differently than other guitars. The Les Paul also differentiated itself by coming in many boldly colored designs.
The Les Paul Custom guitar was designed from the start to be a more high quality and stately guitar. It was nicknamed the Black Beauty for its slick black design. LesPaul stated that the design was meant to be reminiscent of a tux. The guitar's surface was made from solid mahogany, instead of maple like the standard model. Starting in 1957, the Custom was outfitted with the humbucker style pickup, giving it its defining bulky and warm sound.
The Custom of today has a sharper tone due to its ebony fretboard. The frets are also somewhat lower than those on your standard guitar, which has led to some calling the Custom the fretless wonder.
Many notable popular musicians have used the Gibson Les Paul custom guitar as their instrument of choice at one point or another. Artists from Carlos Santana to Peter Frampton to Eric Clapton have used Customs.
A brand new Custom today is worth several thousand dollars. They are no longer limited to just being Black Beauties; Customs have since produced with different finished including Antique White and Silverburst.
will a blank fender replacment neck fit my squire affinity stratocaster?
i got a new two piece maple neck for my squire affinity strat. im wondering if it will fit? will it be too big? do i have to sand the back of the neck down to make it not as tall?
it should fit since squire is just a branch of fender. i don't know for sure, but it seems right for it to fit since they are basically the same.

One of the benefits of making a quality, reliable and reputation-worthy instrument is that it'll likely be taken to by renowned musicians. So much so in certain instances that that individual(s) will play it exclusively. He or she is more than happy to endorse it and sales start to soar.
It's another thing altogether when a celebrated musician joins a manufacturer to create their own signature series of the instrument. The Fender Stratocaster is one such instrument and Eric Johnson is one such musician. Guitar player magazine names him as "one of the most respected guitarists on the planet." He's been an instrumental rock visionary who melds jazz, fusion and new age with rock and country.
The Fender Eric Johnson Stratocaster is slightly more contoured than the standard strat and has a thinner lacquer finish. It plays a little different with a one-piece quarter-sawn maple neck that has more a v-shaped profile. A 12" fingerboard radius and 21 polished frets will cater to the experimental-type of player who wants more. Staggered vintage-style machine heads mean no need for a string tree. More importantly, the pickups are Eric Johnson originals and will lead your sound in his direction.
An American vintage synchronized tremolo is included at the namesake's request and a '57 style string recess makes the bridge. Specifically, it means there is no paint between the base plate and block. A similarly '57 style parchment pick guard rounds out the look and appeal of the this specialized take on a classic.
The Fender Eric Johnson Stratocaster was born out of Johnson's wish to give back to the collectors, players and fans who've supported him. Fact is, there's a unique and sweet-feel stratocaster guitar waiting for you at your nearest Fender dealer.

Difference in stratocaster models?
Okay im going to make a Fender stratocaster from the best parts i can find. Ive looked on websites and getting a good alder body and maple neck with Graphtech Graphite Nut will cost me about £250. By typing "fender stratocaster" in google i get a 'fender standard' for £288 and 'fender USA' for £699. My question is it worth spending a extra £38 to get a proper branded stratocaster and with all upgraded part will either be as good as the 'fender USA'
Hello! Building your own guitar is certainly an admirable undertaking; however, unless you become famous (Brian May or Eddie Van Halen, comes to mind), the resulting long-term value of the instrument will remain intrinsic, at best. Not to say you should always consider the return on your investment, but you need to remember that you may not want to keep a guitar forever; understandably, a name-brand instrument will attract more attention than your own creation. Further, you didn’t mention the cost of a bridge, tuners, pickups, pickguard, or electronics for your project, which could add another $300-$400USD to the equation. The problem with buying a higher-grade guitar like the Fender American Standard versus a lesser-expensive factory alternative (independent of the quality level of the components, fit, and finish) is that you will probably change most major parts as your musical needs develop over time. I purchased mine new in 1993, and over the years have changed the tuners (to Sperzel locking-style), the nut (to LSR Rollerball), the pickups (to Dimarzio Virtual-Vintage), the bridge (to Fender Ultra-Strat), the potentiometers (to 500 Meg volume with no-treble-loss circuitry, master tone control, and a separate mid-range control). Is it still a true Fender American Standard? Not really, but it now suits my musical needs perfectly. Is it more or less valuable? Again not really either, but since I plan to be buried with my guitar, it doesn’t matter (okay, that was a bit of an exaggeration!). The whole point is to analyze what best meets your current needs, build it or buy it, and be prepared (emotionally and financially) to make changes as your musical direction dictates. Hope this helps somewhat. Best regards, Dana
